Registration Categories

Professional Attendee

Professional attendees would include researchers, academics, medical professionals, allied health, support workers (other than those attending with a person with Down syndrome) or practitioners. Full Congress registration and single day registrations are available for professional attendees.

Professional Students

Professional Students are students who are currently enrolled in full-time tertiary study.

Single/Family/Group Registration (Non-Professional)

This registration category is for a person with Down syndrome or a Parent or Carer of a person with Down syndrome attending the full congress on their own.

This registration category is for an attendee attending the full congress either as part of a family or group registration who is either:

  • a Parent, Carer, or family member of a person with Down syndrome,
  • a person with Down syndrome, or
  • a Support Person of a person with Down syndrome who is also part of this registration.

This registration category is for the first person in a family or group.

This registration is for additional attendees from the same family or group. This may be other members of the immediate family of the 1st registrant such as a second parent, a person with Down syndrome or siblings. Additionally this category can be used for the carer or support person of a person with Down syndrome who is also part of the Family/Group registration.

To qualify for this registration rate, you must have one registration from the above category.

Group registration cannot be used for groups who are not predominantly from the same family.

Registration Guidance for Parents/Carers

Age of child (with Down syndrome or sibling) Options provided by WDSC2024 Alternatives
0-5 Attend onsite childcare (separate cost – refer website) Support worker, babysitter, family member can care for child onsite. Note that these people would need to register if they wished to access catering or congress sessions. Child can attend sessions with parent/carer as long as not disruptive to session (no registration required).
5-12 (Primary school age) Attend onsite/offsite school age program or alternative accessible excursions (Details TBC - separate cost – refer website) Support worker, babysitter, family member can care for child offsite. Child can attend sessions with parent/carer as long as not disruptive to session (no registration required).
12-18 (Secondary school age)

Attend onsite/offsite school age program or alternative accessible excursions (Details TBC - separate cost – refer website).

Attend sessions of interest (many of which will be aimed at people with Down syndrome or of interest to siblings). Requires registration as a Congress attendee.

Support worker, family member etc can care for child offsite.

Preference is that children of this age do not attend sessions to be cared for / supervised by their parent / carer.

If attending sessions, is likely would have to register as an attendee.

Health Professionals and Researchers Day Meeting

Attendance: Health Professionals and Researchers only.

This meeting is for health professionals and researchers to hear about the latest Down syndrome health updates and advances from local and international leaders in the field. It will include clinical topics, health research and panel presentations, in addition to opportunities to ask questions, interact and network with fellow professionals in the field. Attendees will come away energised and equipped with the latest updates and information to embed in their own practice.

Pre-Congress Self-Advocates Forum

Date: Tuesday 9 July 2024

Inclusions: Morning Tea, Lunch and Afternoon tea

People with Down syndrome aged over 18 years come together to learn, share issues and ideas, and build skills.

We will talk about:

  • Health including mental health
  • Education and employment
  • Rights and self advocacy
  • How organisations can include people with Down syndrome.

We will also have some fun activities like public speaking and art.

This day is for people with Down syndrome to learn new things, build skills and confidence and make friends. It will be an inclusive day, designed with and for people with intellectual disability. Staff will be onsite to help people who need support. It is preferred that parents and other supporters do not attend, however we understand some people with Down syndrome may need specific support with communication or personal care. If attendees require their parent/supporter, we encourage the parent/supporter to only attend the part of the day as needed. During the online registration process, registrants will be asked whether they would require additional childcare facilities for persons not attending the Congress as a registered attendee. Childcare facilities and a program for school-aged children may be available, based on interest.

Social Functions

WDSC 2024 Welcome Reception

Wednesday 10 July 2024 5.30pm - 7.30pm, Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre

The Welcome Reception is a great opportunity to catch up with your peers in a social environment on the first evening of the Congress. The Welcome reception will be held amongst the WDSC 2024 exhibition and include a selection of food and beverage options.

Tickets: A ticket to the welcome reception is included in all full registrations. Additional tickets for day registrants or guests (not already registered) can be purchased via the online registration form for $75 AUD including GST.

WDSC 2024 Congress Dinner

Friday 12 July 2024 6.30pm onwards, Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre

The Congress Dinner will be the closing event of WDSC 2024 and one not to be missed!

Join us for a Native Australian flavours buffet dinner. Your ticket will include a drink on arrival, followed by a cash bar offering non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages for purchase. There will be a live band, DJ and a theme!

Registration Terms and Conditions

Early Bird Registrations that remain unpaid at 7 April 2024 will be automatically increased to the standard registration rate.

By registering and attending this Congress, registrants give permission for their:

  • Contact details to be provided to confirmed sponsors or exhibitors of WDSC2024.
  • Images captured during the Congress through video, livestream and/or photo to be used in promotional and commercial materials, publications and on related websites.
  • Contact information to be included in newsletter lists and any further correspondence for future conferences.

By registering and attending this Congress, registrations agree not to:

  • Rebroadcast, re-transmit, record or share any of the content of this event without express written permission from the Congress Managers.

The Congress Managers reserve the right to reject and refuse any registrations and attendance at this Congress for any reason and at any time.

Registration can only be confirmed once payment is received.

Payment can be made by any of the following methods:

  • Credit card: Visa, MasterCard and American Express are accepted. If you are making a credit card payment from a country outside Australia, for security reasons you may wish to first advise your banking institution of the impending charge and authorize them to allow the charge to Australia to go through. Please note that charges to your credit card will appear as being from “ICMS Australasia Pty Ltd” on your bank statement.
  • Bank Transfer: Please Include your surname in the transfer and email the transfer receipt (remittance) to the Congress Managers at registration@wdsc2024.org.au

Please note that unfortunately we are unable to accommodate Companion Cards.

Deadline: 9 June 2024

Cancellations must be notified in writing (e-mail is sufficient) to the Congress Managers.

Cancellations made by 9 June 2024 will result in a full refund less $150 to cover administration costs. As an alternative to cancellation, your registration may be transferred to another person by 9 June 2024, without incurring any cost penalty. Refunds for cancellations received after 9 June 2024, will only be made in exceptional circumstances. The host reserves final decision on a case-by-case basis for granting a cancellation in extenuating circumstances. It is recommended that travel insurance be secured personally upon registering. The Congress Managers must be advised in writing of any alterations or transfers of registrations.

We ask all attendees to carefully monitor the Australian travel restrictions and exemptions: www.homeaffairs.gov.au/covid19/

Registration fees do not include insurance of any kind. It is strongly recommended that all attendees take out their own travel insurance and medical insurance prior to the conference. The policy should include loss of fees through cancellation of your participation in the conference itself, loss of airfares for any reason, medical expenses and repatriation should travel arrangements have to be altered. In the event of industrial disruptions or natural disasters the Congress Managers cannot accept responsibility for injury or damage to property or persons occurring during the congress or associated activities.

Insurance is the responsibility of the individual attendees.

In the event of a postponement, all registrations will automatically be transferred to the new Congress dates. All components of your registration including accommodation bookings, Welcome Reception RSVP and Congress Dinner RSVP will also be transferred. If you are unable to attend on the new dates, you may contact the Congress Managers to request a transfer of your registration to a colleague at no cost, or request a cancellation and refund that will incur a $150 administration fee up until the Registration Cancellation Deadline.

In the event of the cancellation of the congress, all registrations and associated components of attendance will be cancelled and amounts refunded in full.

The Congress and its agents reserve the right to alter without prior notice any of the arrangements, timetables, plans or other items relating to this meeting, for any cause beyond its reasonable control. The Host and the Congress Managers are not liable for any loss or inconvenience caused as a result of such alteration. In the event of unforeseen circumstances, the Host and the Congress Managers do not accept responsibility for loss of monies caused by delays. Participants are advised to take out personal travel insurance and to extend their policy to cover personal possessions. The Congress does not cover individuals against cancellations of bookings or theft or damage to belongings.
